Hack Your Lunch: Turning the midday bore into an exciting and energizing meal.

Food, in its purest form, is energy. It can be often delicious as well. But not everything is beneficial to your body. There are ways to combine whole grains, vegetables, fruits, protein and fat to create meals that you want to eat and your body is happy to have. Lunch is an optimal meal to take advantage of a perfect energy-taste balance.

Emily Hanhan of Nomnivorous.com will be leading a casual discussion about lunch today in all its facets. Learn how to hack your lunch so that you’re energized for the rest of the day AND excited to take your lunch break. It takes just a little bit of science and a whole lot of creativity to create lunches that last.

Whether you are making your lunches from scratch or buying them, try these changes and see what makes you feel the best:

Eat a “typical” lunch for you, whether homemade or commercially made.

  • 2 hours after lunch, how do you feel?

hungry / full / tired / energized / distracted / focused

  • 4 hours later, how do you feel?

hungry / full / tired / energized / distracted / focused

Add additional vegetables [double your normal portion] to your lunch

Observe your emotions at two and four hours as above.

It may seem very simple on the outside; improved relationships, work situation, stronger leadership, more expressive creative life, less stress, more aliveness. Yet, the responsibility these people take, to ask a therapist, coach or psychologist for help, is a way of expressing the deep realization of the Self’s beauty and endless creative capacity.

Healthy or sick, active or inactive, the more people sat, the more likely they were to die in the next three years. Physical activity did reduce this risk significantly: the 40% higher death risk found when comparing people who sat the most to those who sat the least increased to 100% when comparing those who sat the most and exercised the least to those who sat the least and exercised the most. But while the death risk was much lower for anyone who exercised five hours a week or more, it still rose as these active people sat longer.

Our study shows that moving from viewing time at the office as a sign of productivity, to emphasizing actual results can create a work environment that fosters healthy behavior and well-being… This has important policy implications, suggesting that initiatives creating broad access to time flexibility encourage employees to take better care of themselves.
